Random Musings 9-22-21
A few generations back, my family immigrated to the United States. They came to America looking for opportunities, fleeing the effects of the Potato Famine in Ireland and its spillover into England, and civil war in Italy at the time.
My father, having been raised without a father, worked three rotating shifts in a local factory, working double shifts routinely, as my mother kept up the family as a stay at home Mom. Although there were a lot of simple meals and "hand me down clothes" from other kids in the neighborhood, my parents always made us feel like we had enough.
I have fond memories of visiting my grandparents in their little one bedroom house, their only true living space a converted porch. Their house and their character exuded humbleness. There was a deep appreciation for whatever they had, and they were quick to share what little they had accumulated. Seeing that their children and grandchildren were better off than they had been was all that mattered to them.
My parents sacrificed in order to pave the way for me to go to college. My mother went to work to earn enough extra money to help support me when I was away. I don't think I appreciated the sacrifice so much at the time, but in looking back now, there is deep appreciation for these things.
Why is humility important?
In regards to Truth, humility is essential, as the worst kind of mind is an arrogant mind. An arrogant mind believes IT knows best. A humble mind is an open mind that holds space for something other than what it knows. A humble mind is willing to sacrifice itself for something greater than itself. A humble mind is willing to work hard to see someone else benefit from its labor.
With Truth, the mind is required to sacrifice ITSELF to that which IS before mind. It requires a humble mind to cede its own essence to something Greater than itself. The humble mind is willing to bow down to the Unknown, to give up its own significance, in order for Truth to Realize Its own Self-Awareness.
Are you willing to sacrifice your own identity- to Realize the Truth of what You really are? Can you let go into not knowing?
Humility is the backbone of Source, as Source is ever-giving, ever-providing, ever-loving. All that is asked of us is to open ourselves up to What Is, and let go of the mind that requires Life to be a certain way.
Be humble every day. Always be willing to let go of what you think you know- because Truth IS revealed to those who humbly accept not knowing. Humbly relax into whatever IS- Faithfully giving thanks to Source for however Life may come to you.
